Kathryn Virginia Green Yake, 86, of Fontana, passed away Nov. 19, 2015, at her home in Fontana.
She was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Williams Community, Ala.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree and master’s degree in science in secondary education at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. She taught science at the high school level in Birmingham, Ala., and also Rochester, Minn. She enjoyed raising her three daughters in Rockford, Ill., where her family settled in 1972. She was a past president of the Winnebago Medical Auxiliary and was a longtime member of the Rockford Country Club. She moved 11 years ago to Fontana to be closer to her family, and was a member of Linn Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her beloved and adored grandchildren.
Kathryn leaves behind a great legacy of faith, love, laughter and loyalty.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Dr. Ronald F. Yake, M.D., whom she married Sept. 2, 1961 in Jacksonville, Ala.; her daughters, Randi Barbón, Rosalind (Mark) Meyer, and Suzanne (Karl) Floody; grandchildren, Kathryn and Rachel Barbón, J.Kyle and Erin Davis, Sawyer Meyer, and Samantha and Annalise Floody; sister, Edith (James) Sink; brothers, Butler (Shirley) Green; E.L. Green, Jr.; and Steve (Miriam) Green; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest L. Green Sr., and Eula Boozer Green; daughter, Lisa Kathryn Yake; brother, Sydney (Helen) Green; and sister, Edna Green.
A visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at K.L. Brown Funeral Home, 322 Nisbet St. NW, Jacksonville, Ala.
The funeral will take place at 1 p.m., Dec. 5 at the First Baptist Church of Williams, 5579 Nisbet Lake Road, Jacksonville, Ala. Private family burial will follow.
