A Walworth County Sheriff’s deputy crashed into a pick-up truck at the intersection of Highway 120 and North Bloomfield Road just before 12:30 p.m. this afternoon while in pursuit of suspects who matched the description of suspects being sought by authorities in Illinois for the murder of a Fox Lake Police officer.
Both the deputy and the sole occupant of the pickup truck were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was responding to a call from the City of Lake Geneva Police Department, which was looking for the suspects in the area.
While responding to assist, the deputy, who was traveling south on Highway 120 with lights and siren activated, crashed into a pickup truck that entered into the intersection.
At the request of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office the Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash.
Shortly after the crash the City of Lake Geneva Police notified the Sheriff’s Office to cancel the request for assistance. The subjects were identified and not believed to be involved in the shooting death.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene of the crash by the Bloomfield Police Department, City of Lake Geneva Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Lake Geneva Department of Public Works, as well as Lake Geneva and Bloomfield fire/rescue units and Paratech ambulance.
