Agencies found body after family reported man missing Sunday morning
A 51-year-old Town of Delavan man died early Sunday in a snowmobile crash on the Delavan Lake Inlet.
The family of Victor Haman reported him missing at about 8:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Town of Delavan police. They said Haman left his residence alone on his snowmobile at about 7 p.m. Saturday.
Family members said they went looking for Haman in the early morning hours Sunday when he had not returned home. They found his wrecked snowmobile in some cattails in a remote location along the south side of the Inlet, according to police.
Police, fire and rescue personnel performed a ground search of the area. Haman’s body was found a short distance from his snowmobile, fully obscured by deep snow and heavy cattail cover, said Town of Delavan Police Chief Philip Smith.
Smith said initial observations indicate that Haman’s snowmobile left the lake ice at a high rate of speed, and he was thrown from the snowmobile, which had gone airborne during the accident. The accident and cause of death is still under investigation.
Town of Delavan police and surrounding agencies including the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Delavan Police Department, the Williams Bay Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources helped search for Haman.
Town of Delavan Fire and Rescue personnel responded. They were assisted by surrounding fire and rescue agencies including Elkhorn, Williams Bay, City of Delavan and the City of Lake Geneva, who responded with their airboat. Flight for Life also assisted with an aerial search for Haman.
