Three men charged with burglarizing Elkhorn apartment

Three Illinois men were scheduled to appear in Walworth County Circuit Court last month on charges stemming from the Aug. 13 burglary of an Elkhorn apartment.

Gennaro A. Cavallino, 20, of Normal, Ill., Daniel P. McGovern, 20, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and David O. Nudelman, 20, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., were charged Aug. 20 in Walworth County Circuit Court with burglary of a building or dwelling and misdemeanor theft, both as a party to a crime.

According to the criminal complaint:

Cavallino, McGovern and Nudelman allegedly went to the Court Street apartment of Kurt Dietze on Aug. 13 with the intention of stealing prescription drugs. McGovern and Cavallino entered the apartment with a key Dietze once left in McGovern’s vehicle.

However, Dietze was in the bathroom of the apartment when McGovern and Cavallino entered and interrupted the burglary. Dietze chased Cavallino from the apartment and encountered McGovern, whom he recognized, in the hallway.

Cavallino took “a bunch of money” he saw on the couch in the apartment. Dietze said $700 to $1,200 was taken from his apartment, and police found $4,885 in the vehicle Cavallino, McGovern, Nudelman and another individual were apprehended in. Nudelman admitted he knew McGovern and Cavallino were going to Dietze’s apartment to steal things, and Nudelman said he told McGovern and Cavallino to get him 30 to 40 Xanax.
