On May 30, the Whitewater High School girls soccer began WIAA tournament play as a No. 10 seed.
The Whippets traveled to face No. 7-seeded East Troy and won 2-0.
In the regular season, Whitewater had lost to East Troy twice. The third matchup went the Whippets’ way and advanced them to the second round of the postseason.
“The win was redemptive,” said Whippets head coach Dan McCrea. “We started off slow but gained momentum when Carmen Kraayvenger scored,” McCrea said of a play that featured an assist by Jaden Henneman in the 37th minute.
McCrea said the warm weather taxed his Whippets, but the reserves provided steady relief in maintaining the team’s tempo.
“In the 79th, Meikayla Korf placed a floater over the keeper to put us up 2-0,” McCrea said.
Cora Linos recorded 11 saves in goal for WHS.
Two days later, Whitewater faced second-seeded New Berlin West on the road. This time, the Whippets failed to leave their opponent’s home field with a victory. West won the game, 7-0.
New Berlin West scored four goals in a 23-minute period in the first half.
Whitewater finished its season with a 7-11-2 overall record.
