On May 3, the Whitewater High School boys and girls track and field teams participated in the Tider Invitational at Edgerton High School, their only meet last week.
“Our kids competed very hard and we continue to have personal bests,” Whippets’ head coach Mark Maas said. “The student-athletes continue to work hard as we move into the championship portion of the season. Everything we have done thus far has prepared us for this part of the season.
“Our student-athletes are focused and have set some pretty high goals,” Maas added. “We also are fortunate in that we have great leadership going on, especially kids who lead by example. Our training regimen transitions this week as we prepare to be at our best during the end of the season.”
For the Tider Invitational, the boys placed fourth out of eight teams, while the girls took fifth.
Sophomore Kacie Carollo earned first place in the 200-meter dash, while senior Morgan Radaj finished second in the 100-meter dash.
Hailey Murphy placed second in the 300-meter hurdles, while the Whippets secured first- and second-place finishes from Sydney Treder and Amanda Tovar, respectively, in the pole vault. Abby Grosinske also grabbed a second-place finish in the discus.
For the boys, Jared Clapper took second in the 200-meter dash and Denver Isbell accomplished the same feat in the 400. The Whippets captured first in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:19.52, bettering Jefferson’s time of 8:19.77.
Sashi Popke added another first-place finish for Whitewater with his 13-foot, 6-inch pole vault.
