Sophomore Kacie Carollo came up big when it mattered most as she helped end the Whippets’ three-game losing streak.
Carollo hit a game-winning basket with 4.7 seconds remaining to help beat Fort Atkinson, 39-38, on Monday.
“I was lucky to make the shot because I wasn’t having a really good shooting night,” Carollo said. “Thanks to Jaden’s (Henneman) screen and my teammates shooting well tonight, I was able to get open and make at least one basket.”
In the first half, Fort Atkinson grabbed an 18-9 lead before Whitewater used an 8-1 run to cut the lead to 19-17 at the half.
After trailing 25-21 in the second half, junior Abby Grosinske and senior Emma Sellnow sparked the Whippets, combining for 11 points to grab a 34-25 lead.
“The runs are when we had our offensive motion going,” head coach Kristen Lippens said. “When it was stalled, it was when we were not executing on offense and rushing things. The more we executed on offense and the girls slowed themselves down a little bit, that is when we executed and scored well.”
