The Whitewater boys soccer team was fit to be tied in two recent Rock Valley Conference matches.
Before their Sept. 17 encounter against Evansville, Whitewater coach John Chenoweth said the Blue Devils would be tough based on the past few years. And they were.
The Whippets struck first but Evansville evened the score as the foes settled for a 1-1 halftime tie.
Each team scored twice in the second half, leading to a 3-all tie.
Manny Cortez, Christian Reyes and David Kromholz scored goals for Whitewater. “Our center defensive mid(fielders) of Danny Soto, Morgan Janovec and Ignacio Cuevas did a good job of being aware of their dangerous players, while our outside mids Colin Chenoweth, Cody Rupke and Manny Cortez worked well to help move the ball up the field while tracking back defensively,” John Chenoweth said.
Whitewater traveled to Edgerton on Sept. 20.
The hosts were in attack mode, but it didn’t work as Whitewater forced a scoreless draw.
“Edgerton had a game plan to get the ball into our half as quick as possible on each possession,” Chenoweth said. “They had a strong keeper who did not shy away from coming out of his goal box and was a really a strong punter.”
Chenoweth said his team began the game at a much slower pace than he would have liked. The intensity picked up in the second half, even though it didn’t produce a goal.
The Whippets began this week with a 4-4-3 overall record and were behind East Troy-Palmyra Eagle, McFarland and Jefferson in the conference standings (0-1-2).
