Senior Will Leibbrand was the standout for Whitewater High School’s football team last week.
The senior scored the Whippets’ lone touchdown as they fell hard against Beloit Turner, 56-7.
“They beat us physically and beat us pretty well,” head coach Jim Pease said. “They are bigger, stronger and faster.”
Beloit Turner got on the board first when quarterback Kenny Draeving connected with Emiliano Reyes for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Draeving added a 4-yard scoring run to increase the Turner lead to 14-0.
Leibbrand registered the Whippets’ lone score late in the first quarter as the senior took a 76-yard run into the end zone to cut Turner’s advantage to 14-7.
But Draeving and the Trojans responded as he connected with Jackson Carter for a 30-yard TD pass to make it 21-7.
“We turned it over a couple of times and they got some points off that,” Pease said. “They just controlled the line of scrimmage really the whole night.”
Leibbrand ran for 112 yards on 12 carries. The senior also finished with two receptions for 16 yards.
Reyes added his first rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter with a 6-yarder to make it 28-7. Jordan Majeed contributed to his 84-yard rushing performance with a 4-yard touchdown run to make it 35-7 at the half.
JoVon’te Coleman added another Beloit Turner score in the third quarter before Reyes added his second score with a 5-yard run to make it 49-7. Reyes recorded his third touchdown run late in the fourth with a 14-yard effort.
The Whippets will host East Troy on Friday at 7 p.m.
“We know they will be stronger offensively, and they were last year because they have a lot of kids returning,” Pease said. “They can spread the ball out and run it and throw it, so we know going in we have to be fundamentally better.”
