Expectations greater for Whitewater tennis team

This year, the Whitewater boys tennis team will be tested on the court and are expected to perform better than last season.

“Last season we finished sixth out of seven in our conference,” head coach Jordan Dittmer said. “This season I expect to improve upon that and be competitive with the teams in the conference.”

Six key returning players include three seniors and three sophomores. They will replace two of the leading Whippets’ top seniors from a year ago in Justin Brantmeier and Mitchell Dalzin, state qualifiers in No. 1 doubles.

“We lost a lot of our top players from a season ago,” Dittmer said. “This will be a good opportunity for players to step up into a bigger role this year.”

Assisting Dittmer as coach will be Brenna Pamperin. The leading seniors this year are Cole Kinson, Joe Creanza and Anthony Reed. Austin Kaja, Colin Chenoweth and Slate Spear are the top sophomores on the team.

Whitewater will have a lot of work to do if they want to keep up with the top teams in the Rock Valley Conference.
