With controlling the tempo of the game and using sound ball movement, the Whippets boys basketball team was able to pick up a conference win against Big Foot Monday.
The win also included improved rebounding.
“I thought we played intense on the defensive end,” Whitewater coach Dan Gnatzig said. “That was the main thing. We rebounded hard all game on defense.”
In what was the last home game of the regular season, senior forward Bryce Parrish scorched Big Foot for a game-high 30 points in their first meeting and he dominated in the paint again, leading all scorers with 22.
“Man-to-man, our matchups are difficult for them,” Gnatzig said. “At Big Foot (Jan. 9), they kind of did the same matchup and Bryce had a 30-point game there. I just think that we had the right matchup and our kids were able to find Bryce open there.”
Parrish scored the first basket of the game and had six of the Whippets’ first seven points early in the first half. The Chiefs didn’t get their first basket until the 11 minute and 41 second mark of the first half on a three-point play by junior forward Logan Eischeid to cut the Whitewater lead to 7-4.
Whitewater junior forward Dylan Pease came off the bench and established himself in the game right away.
He hit a three-pointer and added another basket to score five of the Whippets’ seven straight points to give the home team a 17-8 advantage.
Parrish scored six of Whitewater’s last 10 points in the first half as the Whippets took a 27-15 lead into the locker room. He had 14 first half points.
