The Whitewater boys soccer team had a busy week in which it played five games in six days, and won two.
Whitewater hosted Janesville Parker at home, Sept. 11.
Juan Cuellar-Meza scored Whitewater’s first goal in the eighth minute from a corner kick by Johaly Xochipa. The two teammates struck again in the 24th minute to give the Whippets a 2-0 lead. A goal by Roberto Navejas made it 3-0 at the half.
Parker’s early second half goal cut their deficit to 3-1. Dalton Chenoweth scored the last two goals for Whitewater on a pass from James Dedrick for his first goal. Tommy Cushman assisted his second goal. Parker got a goal in the final minute of the match.
The Whippets beat the visitors, 5-2.
Fortunes turn vs. Big Foot/Williams Bay
Big Foot/Williams Bay brought their aggressive style of play to Whitewater, Sept. 14, in a conference game and they disrupted the rhythm of the Whippets all night.
A total of 15 fouls and three yellow cards were issued to the Chiefs. Those infractions gave Whitewater numerous free kicks. Jose Villages headed the ball into the net from one of the free kicks for a 1-0 Whitewater lead. BFWB tied the match at 1-1. Both teams traded goals again in the first half. The score at halftime was 2-2.
The physical play by Big Foot/Williams Bay against Whitewater continued in the second half and took the Whippets out of their rhythm. It didn’t affect the Chiefs on offense as they got three more goals in a 5-2 win.
“While the score was tied (at the half), we still weren’t pleased with the number of lost opportunities as (our) players were taking on too many defenders without passing the ball,” Whitewater coach John Chenoweth said. “This has been a recurring theme for the season that has made it hard for us to get any flow in our games. Unfortunately, that lack of passing and the rough play on the field kept us off the scoreboard in the second half and a few individual mistakes put us out of the game.”
Whitewater received compliments from the WIAA through the officials who worked the Sept. 11 match against Janesville Parker for an exceptional level of good sportsmanship from the participating players of both teams, coaches and fans in attendance.
Last weekend, the Whippets played in the Milton Tournament against Kaneland, Illinois, Janesville Parker and host Milton.
Whitewater lost to Kaneland, 7-1 on Sept. 15. On Sept 16, Whitewater split their two games. The Whippets beat Janesville Parker for the second time in the same week, 2-0, and lost to host Milton, 2-1.
Their record after last weekend was 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
