After starting 0-2 in 2017 against two non-conference opponents, the Whippets soccer team challenged Jefferson in a match that was decided by the smallest of margins.
On April 13, the Whippets played its third game of the season against Jefferson, again on the road. After two games of being held scoreless, the team scored its first goal of the season.
It didn’t take long for Jefferson to score its first goal of the game, as within the opening minute, the Eagles scored off a corner kick. The first goal of the season then occurred for the Whippets as Meikayla Korf scored to tie the game going into the second half.
The Eagles would then score in the 84th minute to win the game 2-1, and push the Whippets’ record to 0-3 on the season. Whitewater recorded over 20 shots on goal in the game, but couldn’t put the ball into the net, head coach Dan McCrea said.
The first-year head coach said the coaching staff was pleased with the marked improvement of play as the team maintained structure.
A 4-0 defeat was the first outcome of the season for Whitewater High School’s girls soccer team, as the team went scoreless in its loss to Monroe on the road. In game two of the 2017 season, the Whippets again hit the road against Janesville Craig, and lost, 5-0.
The loss to Janesville Craig was the team’s second non-conference game before getting into Rock Valley Conference play in its third contest of the season. After the loss to Janesville Craig, McCrea said the team is young and looking to establish a rhythm.
After a match against Edgerton, the Whippets will travel to face Palmyra-Eagle on April 20 and then play at Delavan-Darien on April 25.
