The Whitewater Whippets boys basketball team grinded through a game against East Troy, coach Dan Gnatzig said, but it was not able to get the win.
“I thought we got out of the first half well without the foul trouble, and then we had a lapse of three quarters,” Gnatzig said.
The game was back and forth for most of the first half as East Troy led by two at 31-29 at the half.
“It was a grind trying to get through the full game,” Gnatzig said.
For part of the second half, the game stayed close until East Troy pulled away on a 19-4 run after the game was tied at 47 to get the 66-51 win.
Senior Logan Rasmussen led the Whippets in points with 18, while Bryce Parrish had 15. Daniel Fuller had eight and Connor Laue had six.
“We started to run our offense and scoring,” Gnatzig said. “I thought it was a team effort, and there were some opportunities where we didn’t finish shots at the rim and they turned it and made some big plays.”
The Whippets will travel to Palmyra-Eagle High School to face the Panthers on Thursday.
“I think we just have to play our style,” Gnatzig said. “They are physical and they have nice athletes.”
The Whippets are now 6-6 overall, and 4-4 in conference play.
East Troy was led by A.J. Vukovich and Nick Bourdo of East Troy each had 17 points, leading the team. Michael Polakoski had 13 points, while Jonathon Ciriacks had nine.
