By defeating East Troy, the Whitewater Whippets girls basketball team has increased its winning streak to 11 games.
The No. 1-ranked Whitewater Whippets’ girls basketball team defeated East Troy, 61-30, on Jan. 13 to push its overall record to 11-1.
Senior guard Rebekah Schumacher led all scorers in the Jan. 12 game with 24 points thanks to four 3-pointers made. The 5-foot-9 guard committed to play at Quincy University next season and was the only player to make a single 3-pointer for the Whippets.
No other player reached the double-digit mark outside of Myriama Smith-Traore’s 10.
East Troy’s lone player to score more than seven was MacKenzie Lindow’s 14.
“Overall, I thought East Troy did a nice job guarding Myriama but both her and Rebekah are doing a tremendous job trusting their teammates,” Whippet head coach Judy Harms said. “Many players contributed tonight and it shows in the most important statistic of the night, the final score.”
Nine different Whippets scored against East Troy. The next opponent for the top-ranked Whippets will be Palmyra-Eagle, who owns a 3-9 overall record.
The game against the Panthers was scheduled for Jan. 19 at Whitewater High School.
The Whippets currently sit atop the Rock Valley Conference standings at 8-0 with McFarland being No. 2 at 7-1. In the third game of the season, the Whippets defeated McFarland on the road, 67-46.
