The Whippets Boys Basketball team continued their successful start to their 2016 season with two more wins this past week. The team got into another close battle in a 47-44 win against Edgerton, and beat Parkview 73-35 on the road to improve to 3-1 on the season.
On Tuesday, the Whippets fell down 21-9 after some late three pointers at the half after keeping it close early. After the break, Edgerton pushed that lead to 17 at 26-9.
“At halftime, we just told them to space the floor and play,” head coach Dan Gnatzig said. “We did a lot of standing around in the first half and when we continued to move and got in the bonus early and with confidence came extra baskets.”
The Whippets never gave up as they went on a 12-0 run to cut the Edgerton lead to 26-21. Edgerton built the lead back up to 10 before the Whippets made another run to cut it to five at 35-30 after a Daniel Fuller basket.
After a Bryce Parrish basket, the Whippets cut it to one at 40-39. Whitewater finally took the lead after a pair of Daniel Fuller free throws at 43-42 and built it up to five after a Logan Rasmussen basket and two Navejas free throws.
The Whippets held Edgerton scoreless the last four minutes and fifty-eight second of the game and outscored Edgerton 28-14 after being down 17. Even despite to Daniel Zeimet free throws to get the 47-44 win.
Bryce Parrish led the Whippets in Tuesday’s win with 15, while Fuller had 13. Edgerton was led on Tuesday by Daniel Zeimet with 17, while Jacob Fox had 12.
On Friday, the Whippets traveled to Parkview and got a 73-35 win to improve to 3-1 on the season. They will be at home for the next two games against both Milton and Big Foot this week on Tuesday and Thursday.
