The Whitewater High School boys soccer team entered this past week with a 3-7 overall record and the team had just one game on its schedule. The one contest took place on Sept. 22 against East Troy, who entered with a 4-3-1 record.
In the first half, Whippets head coach John Chenoweth said the team struggled to find a rhythm. Despite that, the team put up three goals in that initial half of play. East Troy scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute.
“It took the Whippets 10 more minutes to get on the board with a nice shot by Brian Reyes, assisted by Hiqmet Dauti,” he said. “Unfortunately, East Troy went ahead again 4 minutes later. Jake Walton whipped a ball across the face of goal and bounced one in off the back post to even the score. And the Whippets quickly scored once again when Johaly Xochipa found the back of the net. The Whippets were fortunate to go into the half with a 3-2 lead as everyone knew we were not playing to our potential.”
In the second half, Chenoweth said the team turned its play around. The Whippets got 13 shots off, but none hit the back of the net. With just five minutes remaining, East Troy scored and the game concluded in a 3-3 tie.
The team will have seven days rest since its game against East Troy when they take the field again, but the schedule won’t get easier, as the Whippets face McFarland at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Whitewater High School. McFarland is undefeated in conference play and is 10-2 overall this season.
