The Whitewater High School volleyball team played two matches in three nights this past week, starting on Sept. 13 against East Troy. Whippets head coach Kathy Bullis said the team didn’t come out victorious, but they did continue to improve defensively and served aggressively.
“Playing well and getting better each time the netters step on the court is our goal,” Bullis said. “Our student-athletes are focusing on doing their job and performing fundamental techniques better each day. Focusing on this process will result in small victories within our team and increase our level of play. I am really impressed with how the team has bought into this goal and how the players are being intentional in getting better each day. The wins will follow.”
Two days later, Bullis said the team was hopeful it would earn its first conference win of the season against Evansville, but came up short. She said the Whippets struggled at times with receiving serves, which dug holes for them throughout the match.
Statistically, over the two matches against East Troy and Evansville, Catherine Yang led in digs for the Whippets with 31. Jen Douglas led in assists both games, totaling 25, and Miranda Reynolds recorded three blocks.
Following those two matches, the Whippets traveled to Pewaukee for an invitational that featured some of the top teams throughout the state. Bullis said in order to be the best, it’s important to play against the best. Results from the invitational were not received by press time.
The next match for the Whippets is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. against McFarland on Sept. 22 at McFarland High School.
