The Whitewater High School baseball team ended its previous week with a win and had four games on its schedule this past week. At 10-6 overall, the team could either extend its record in the right direction or falter back down to .500.
On May 12, the Whippets travelled to play Edgerton in a doubleheader and came out victorious in both games. In the first contest, the team held Edgerton to just two total hits, while offensively, was able to score six runs on six hits.
Jason Curtis pitched the gem on the mound, allowing the two hits in his complete game shutout while striking out 10 batters. Both Sam Leibbrand and Bryce Parrish recorded two RBIs apiece.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Whitewater won another shutout, 7-0. Whitewater out-hit Edgerton, 10-5, in this one. Parrish pitched this game, going all seven innings as well, and striking out three batters compared to zero walks.
The Whippets struck early in this game, scoring five runs in the second inning and adding its last two in the third. Julian Sonn went 3-for-4 at the plate and had four RBIs in the game. Three other players had one each.
The very next day, the team hosted Badger, getting no time off. Despite that, the team held its home-field advantage and the offense was a large part of the team’s success.
Whitewater trailed only in the top of the first inning of this game, but in the bottom of the inning, tied the game at 1-1. The Whippets would go on to score at least two runs in every inning from that point forward except for a scoreless fifth inning.
The team ended up beating Badger, 13-7. Four different pitchers were used for Whitewater. Badger also utilized four pitchers.
Eight different Whippets recorded at least one hit in the game. Leibbrand and Jimmy DuVal led the way by knocking in three runs apiece. DuVal also totaled a team-high five bases. Whitewater recorded 14 hits to go along with its 13 runs.
On Monday, the Whippets delivered their third shutout in four games, 7-0, to the Parkview Vikings.
In the last game of the week, the Whippets hosted East Troy on May 17 and put together a convincing victory all-around. The pitching went back to its shutout ways, while the offense scored seven runs on eight hits.
Curtis went six innings in this game on the mound, striking out eight batters in the process. The big inning for the Whippets in this one came in the third, when the team put together five runs.
James Maas had a team-high two RBIs while six different players recorded a hit. With the four wins, the team is now 14-6 overall heading into its final stretch of the season.
The Whippets have five games remaining on its regular season schedule and all five are on the road. The first was set for May 19 against East Troy, the team the Whippets just defeated.
The second and third games are taking place May 20 against Elkhorn and Lakeside Lutheran. As of earlier this week, Whitewater was 10-4 in Rock Valley North Conference play, trailing only 13-1 Jefferson in the standings.
