On Saturday, the Whitewater Whippets’ girls swimming team competed in the Platteville Invite and four girls finished the meet earning medals. For the second year in a row, Grace Fanshaw won the 100 IM and her dominating meet didn’t end there.

Fanshaw also finished first in the 500 freestyle, while three other medalists finished in the top-six in the 200 IM and 500 IM. Sydney Hackney earned a sixth-place finish in the 200 with her time of 2:32.70, and Anna Yeazel and Madeline Kuhl recorded fifth and sixth-place finishes, respectively, in the 500.

Eight other girls finished in the top-16 in races during the meet, earning the Whippets points toward its team score. Alongside Hackney, Yeazel and Fanshaw was Sierra Minton, as the team of four earned an eighth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Also competing in the 200 medley relay and earning points was the group of Kuhl, Sierra Brunner, Alyssa Nelson and Morgan Radaj. The four finished in 12th-place. Head coach Gina Foucault said a lot of her swimmers were recording best times and shaving time off their swims as the team is heading into its championship meets.

The next meet for the Whippets will be the Southern Lakes Conference Championship on Oct. 31 at Delavan-Darien High School.
