Despite the 4-1 loss on Oct. 15 to the No. 1-ranked team in the state and defending champions, Delavan-Darien, the Whippets’ boys soccer team earned a No. 5 seed in the fourth Sectional of the WIAA state tournament.

The team will enter the playoffs with a 9-5-3 overall record and face off against Saint Thomas More (11-4-3) at 4 p.m. on Thursday at South Milwaukee Soccer Complex. The season had its ups and downs for the Whippets this season, as after starting the year 0-3-1, the team ended its season going 7-2-1 in its final 10 games.

On the other side, Saint Thomas More went 7-1-2 in its final 10 games of the season. They finished first in the Metro Classic Conference, while Whitewater finished in second, behind McFarland, in the Rock Valley Conference.

During that final 10-game stretch for the Whippets, a six-game winning streak took place, and the only loss was against Delavan-Darien. Delavan-Darien is the No. 1-seed in the Whippets’ sectional and will be its second round opponent on Saturday if the two teams advance past the first round.
