The Whippet netters are having a solid season and added to their success with yet another win under its belt over East Troy last Friday.
Josh Nast, Brodie Runez, Jan Maroske and Dineth Gunawardena all won their singles matches May 8, all in straight sets and without much trouble to speak of.
In the closest match of the day, Forrest Spear and Chamath Gunawardena won in riveting fashion 6-6, 5-7 and 10-8. Mitchell Dalzin and Justin Brantmeier won their doubles match in straight sets.
Then it was on to a quad championship against East Troy, Edgerton and University Lake. Whitewater took University Lake out easily, 7-0 but Edgerton put up a bit of a fight before the Whippets prevailed, 5-2. East Troy also put on a nice show, yet succumbed 4-3, handing the first place trophy to Whitewater.
“(It was a) cold day,” Whitewater head coach AJ Paul wrote in a recap of the game. “But our guys played really well at times and struggled a bit at times with unforced errors. For the most part we played to expectations.”
Several Whippets earned medals for their play during the quad tournament: Nast, Runez, Spear, Chamath Gunawardena and Maroske.
