The Whitewater High School girls soccer team is focused and tearing up the standings as they notched wins six, seven and eight last week. On senior night, the Whippets put up an 8-spot on the visiting Eagles and set the tone in the conference with a 6-2 record.

Goals during the rout came courtesy of Autumn Bultman, Holly Hough, Megan Reynolds, Abby Ramirez, Melani Martinez, Alyson Quass and Allison Sedmark.

The backline was again impressive as the goalkeepers only had to stop three shots. Head coach Rene Menager said he was happy with the effort.

“The midfield and attack was really in sync. During the game again we were able to give some of our starters a deserved rest,” Menager said.

Rewinding a bit, the Whippets won two matches earlier last week, both of which were equally impressive.

On a trip to Clinton April 20, it’s starting to become clear how good this team can be. Pushing a fast pace in the first half allowed the starters some time off the field, saving their legs for later in the season. Menager turned them loose and the girls went out and scored 10 goals in the first half.

The bounty of goals against Clinton were posted by: Hough (3), Bultman and Reynolds, two each; and Ramirez, Caleigh Judd and Haylee Stachow with one apiece. The game was called in accordance with the conference’s mercy rule.

If one time is good, two must be better as the Whippets again caused a mercy rule in its game against Edgerton. In what is becoming a temporary trend at least, Whitewater put up 10 goals, and waited for the time to run by until the referees called the game.

Against Edgerton, Whippets hitting the sweet spot were: Hough and Bultman with two each; and single goals by Rebekah Schumacher, Sarah Schiltz, Milena Maroske, Megan Reynolds, Amanda Kraayvanger and Ramirez.

Now poised at 8-2-1 overall and winning their last three contests by a combined 28-0 score, Whitewater is in prime position to secure the top of the conference over the next month or so of play.
