Whippet swimmers celebrate Senior Night

Several Whippet swimmers had strong showings in the pool against Elkhorn on Senior Night. As a team however, the Whippets fell to the Elks, 96-74. Each senior received a kick board signed by all of their teammates.

The seniors for Whitewater High School are:

Four-year veterans: Wentao Guo, Jason Shelbourn, Kit Zoesch-Laumann and Jon Zimdars;

Three-year veteran Forrest Spear, and;

First-year swimmers: Ricardo Cid, Alfredo Gomez and Karlo Martinovic.

Though the team results weren’t what the Whippets were hoping for, they won several events in the meet.

Winners included:

200 I.M. – Jon Zimdars set a new school record of 2:02.72;

50 Freestyle – Benny Liang;

100 Freestyle – Wentao Guo;

500 Freestyle – Jon Zimdars with a new school record of 4:55.68;

200 Freestyle Relay – Wentao Guo, Benny Liang, Karlo Martinovic and Jon Zimdars;

100 Backstroke – Wentao Guo;

100 Breaststroke – Benny Liang;

400 Free Relay – Jon Zimdars, Wentao Guo, Andrew Gildner and Benny Liang.

Placing third for the team, the 200 Medley Relay swum by Andrew Gildner, Seth Bols, Kit Zoesch-Laumann and Karlo Martinovic.

Andrew Gildner took third in the 200 and 500 Freestyle event, both lifetime best swims for him.

“We had some impressive drops in times,” head coach Joan Dimitrz said.
