The Whitewater High School girls swim team came away with five wins against the Burlington Co-op team in the latest dual meet, falling 106-64. It wasn’t the way the team hoped to send out the seniors competing in their final home match but as has been the case all season, there were plenty of shining moments.

A few of the swimmers worth mentioning include: Sara Foucault, first in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 butterfly; Sydney Zidmars won the 100 freestyle; Debra Krebs too the 100 backstroke; and the 400 relay team of Foucault, Krebs, Zidmars and Grace Fanshaw also took the top spot.

Fanshaw is now 10th all time at Whitewater for her time in the 100 butterfly, while also taking 10th in the 100 freestyle; Sydney Hackney is now 10th in the 200 individual medley; Zidmars now ranks 7th in the 100 freestyle and 6th in the 100 backstroke.

“I was impressed by Assa Diarra and her debut swim in the 50 Freestyle,” coach Gina Foucault said. “Assa just learned to float four weeks ago and is now able to make it across the pool and back. Ana Laura took on the 500 Freestyle and did a fantastic job; Ana, back on September 9, barely finished her 50 Freestyle and now finished a 500.”

The Whippets had an impressive, 37 personal best times recorded during this meet. It is one thing to compete to win each meet, it’s another thing entirely to beat yourself, something this team has continued to improve on throughout the season.

Moving forward, the varsity conference team needs to be set up soon. There will be 24 individual relays and six relays at the conference meet. Foucault said approximately 12 swimmers will make the squad for that meet.
