The Whippets girls volleyball team was unable to pull out a victory in what appeared to be a winnable game this past week against Jefferson.

Whitewater had difficulty from the outset, losing the first set handily before fighting through a rough patch and persevering to take the second set 27-25.

Jefferson however, regrouped in the third set and simply out-paced the Whippets that round. By the fourth set, the Whippets tried to battle out of big deficits but despite their efforts, they simply could not stop Jefferson from going on long runs.

“The girls played with confidence and were putting up a strong block. The combination of Kailey Reynolds serving tough and our front row of Myriama Smith-Trajore, Sarah Schumacher and Nicole Frison helped fuel us,” coach Kathy Bullis stated after the outing.

Five best times, three wins for swimmers

The Whitewater High School girls swimming team felt defeat on both the varsity and JV levels this past week.

The varsity squad fell by 52 points and the JV by 59. That being said, several Whippets brought their best to the meet, putting up five new Top 10 individual times and winning three races outright.

Sara Foucault won the 100 Butterfly by making a push in the last half of the race and Sydney Zidmars won the 200 Freestyle convincingly. Each had a second place finish during the meet in addition to those victories.

The 400 Freestyle relay team of Maritza Xochipa, Emely Rodriguez, Alex Manske and Aide Mendoza finished first by more than a five second margin over their nearest competitor.

Posting new, Top 10 All Time Individual Times was headlined by Sydney Zim-dars, becoming fourth all time in the 200 Freestyle and 6th in the 100 Backstroke. Grace Fanshaw became 10th all time in the 50 Freestyle and fourth in the 500; Debra Krebs became 10th all time in the 100 Freestyle.

The coach said the team is swimming well this season and has the utmost confidence in them.

“We continue to swim very well,” head coach Gine Foucault said. “(We’re) improving so much each week.”
