The Whitewater High School boys soccer team found itself with an even record after five games (2-2-1), even after dropping a hard fought match against Delavan-Darien late last week.
This might be a season in which the Whippets make it to the postseason with a chance to do some serious damage, if early season play is any indication. To get there, however, they must be able to regroup and dispose of teams they should be beating.
This started out with a match against East Troy, in which Whitewater took care of business, blowing the Trojans off the field 10-0.
Mark Cuevas started off the scoring in the sixth minute of the game and the rest, as they say, was history. Cuevas would score three goals and two assists during the game. Roberto Navejas also had a good game with two goals, both mid-way through the second half. Single goals were scored by a host of Whippets, including: Alonso Banda, Xhonatan Shahollari, Jonathon Caldwell, Jacob Haeft and Jake Riemer.
“The midfield was able to control the pace of the game and was able to distribute the ball very effectively,” coach Rene Menager after the game. “The defensive unit was solid in front of our goalkeeper.”
Indeed, Jimmy Cushman only faced three shots on goal in the first half and Bryce Parrish got some time in front of the net in the second half, finishing with two saves.
Whitewater is now 2-1-0 in conference and 3-2-1 overall.
