The Whitewater High School baseball team stands at 1-4 after a slow start to the season. After losing their first game of the year, the Whippets held their home opener against Clinton and delivered a 14-4, 6-inning victory. Seven separate players got a base hit and the team stole six bases collectively. Pitcher Tyler Hill went five innings and the game was closed out by Sam Leibbrand.
The Whippets would go on to lose to Delavan-Darien 12-3 in the following game, despite Julian Sonn going 3-4 at the plate with a double and a stolen base.
The painful losses continued as Whitewater dropped their very next game at home to McFarland 11-0.
But the following day, Whitewater traveled to McFarland and put on a much better performance. Tyler Hill again pitched five innings, only allowing three runs while striking out five batters.
Caleb Hintz had a double and Scott Gorsuch also had a double and an RBI. All that tough work however only served to keep the game close as the Whippets eventually fell to McFarland 3-2.
Whitewater will play Palmyra-Eagle on Tuesday.
