The Whitewater High School girls varsity soccer team lost a close game to Big Foot this past week, losing 1-0 in overtime and bringing the team’s record to an even 1-1. The Whippets tried to be aggressive during the game, but it didn’t seem to phase Big Foot at all.
“We played aggressively from the start and got multiple shots on goal, but they forced overtime anyway,” head coach Dan McCrea said after the match.
In overtime, Big Foot sent one into the back of the net during the 8th overtime minute while on the counter-attack.
Respond with win
The Lady Whippets responded to the tough loss to Big Foot with a 5-2 victory over East Troy on Monday night.
Sophomore Holly Hough went wild against the hosting Trojans, scoring four goals to lead the Whitewater. Still, the win did not come easily as the game was tied at halftime, 2-2.
In the second half, freshman Milena Maroske scored the first goal of her career to break the tie. Hough took over from there, adding in two more scores to pull away and hand the Whippets a conference victory.
After the match, McCrea was pleased but knows the team can do even better.
“Once again the team played a complete game, although there will always be room for improvement,” he said.
Whitewater is now 2-1-0 in the Rock Valley Conference, and they will host Janesville Parker this week in their only match.
JV playing well
The Whitewater High School junior varsity soccer team defeated Big Foot last week 6-1 with goals scored by Halley Stachow, Brittney Piper (2) and Karsen Vance (3).
