The spring track season is off and running, and with it the Whitewater High School Whippets have some good news to report, along with a few areas they will work to improve on as the season progresses.

At the annual Nelson-Daniel Classic, held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s indoor arena, the WHS boys finished in second place overall while the girls struggled, coming in 19th out of 27 teams participating.

One of the reasons for the slow start for the girls may have been that the Whippets spring break robbed the unit of a few key runners for the meet. The team plans to get those runners back in the mix soon and along with their return comes hope for improvement.

The boys squad, on the other hand had plenty of standouts, starting with Keagen Stonewerth who tied for second place overall in the pole vault, second in the long jump and took fourth in the 4×200 relay.

Anthony Juoni won the triple jump and also took third in the 4×400 relay. Joe Bullis was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles, Brett Harms took second in the 1600 meter run and was also third in the 4×400 relay. James Ehlen took fourth in the 800 meter run and Brad Stoll placed fifth in the shot put.

For the ladies, WHS runner Liz Mielke was the bright spot as she took second overall in the 800 meter run.
