With a 7-0 victory over East Troy Oct. 10, the Whitewater High School boys soccer team claimed the Rock Valley Conference 2013 championship. It is the Whippets third RVC title since 2006.

The Whippet boys had led the RVC throughout the season, but needed the win over East Troy to clinch the title. Whitewater ended the conference season with an 11-1-0 RVC mark. McFarland was second with a 10-2-0 record.

Whitewater has been strong offensively all season, and proved that once again against East Troy.

Mark Cuevas, Jake Riemer, Jacob Haeft, Caleb Hintz and Max Walton all found the back of the net in the first half as Whitewater grabbed a 5-0 lead.

In the second half, Hintz scored a second goal, as did junior varsity call-up Brian Reyes.

Cuevas and Walton are 1-2 in conference points for goals and assists. Cuevas has 26 goals and 11 assists for 63 points, while Walton has 27 goals and eight assists for 62 points.

Defensively, the Whippets kept the Trojans off the board. Saul Vargus, Keanan Stonewerth, Josh Pelayo, Hintz, Chamath Gunawardena and Tyler Hill have been solid all season.

The Whippets concluded the regular season 14-3-3.

Vs. Evansville

On Oct. 8, Whitewater blanked a feisty Evansville team 2-0.

Cuevas, on an assist from Walton, scored in the 24th minute to make it 1-0 Whitewater.

Just seconds before the first half concluded, Cuevas scored again on a one-on-one, but the goal was called back as time had expired. That left the score at 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, Cuevas did get his second goal of the game in the 63rd minute, again assisted by Walton.

Schedule

Whitewater hosted Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday in a WIAA Division 3 regional game. If the Whippets won that game they will take on the winner of the St. Thomas More/East Troy matchup. That second-round game is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, on the home field of the team with the higher seed.
