Whitewater High School hosted Elkhorn Aug. 28 and defeated the Elks 4-0. Coach Rene Menager said he was pleased with the scoring distribution as each Whippet goal came from a different player.
In the first half Xhonatan Shahollari scored on a corner delivered by Alonso Banda, taking the Whippets to halftime with a 1-0 lead. In the second half Mark Cuevas scored in the first, followed by Max Walton and a then capstone goal by Alonso Banda via a penalty kick-in.
Defensively, the Whippets were led by Saul Vargus and Caleb Hintz. Varsity is now 1-1-0 overall and 0-0-0 in Rock Valley play. Earlier in the evening Whitewater JV tied the Elks 1-1 with the Whippets lone goal by Bryan Reyes. JV is 1-1-0 overall.
Up next is a Varsity only competition at home tonight against Edgerton. Game time is 6:45 p.m.
