University of Wisconsin-Whitewater assistant basketball coach Amy Zelinger will be inducted into the UW-Stout Athletic Hall of Fame with the 2013 class in ceremonies Saturd
ay, Nov. 2.
She played four years for UW-Stout, even earning a starting berth in several games as a first year player when she averaged 7.9 points, 4.1 rebound and 2.2 steals. She upped her scoring average to 9.5 points and steals to 3.1 per game her sophomore year.
Zelinger helped Stout to winning records all four years, including the WIAC title and a NCAA III tournament berth in 2002. She was a First Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference guard in 2001, averaging 13.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.1 steals, and repeated the honor in 2002 (9.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.0 steals). Zelinger is UW-Stout’s all-time leader in steals.
Zelinger served as a student assistant coach for the Blue Devils during the 2002-03 season. She came to UW-Whitewater for the 2003-04 season as a graduate assistant, moving up to an on-staff position for the 2005-06 season. In the 10 years she has contributed to UW-W basketball the Warhawks have won three WIAC championships. The Warhawks have earned NCAA Division III championship tournament berths the last six seasons, finishing third in 2008 and second last March.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities at UW-Whitewater, Zelinger is an instructor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching, and the assistant sports information director.
