Whitewater High School senior Stephanie Nelson has been named to the 2013 Rock Valley Conference North All-Conference First Team for softball.
Nelson made the team as an outfielder, although she also did extensive pitching for the Whippets.
Nelson, a co-captain on the team, batted .415 on the season and made no errors as an outfielder.
“She finished her four-year varsity career making only two errors, none since her sophomore year and never made one in the outfield,” head coach Tim Nelson said.
Over her four years with the Whippet softball team, Stephanie Nelson batted .397.
This is Nelson first year named to the all-RVC first team, but her third year receiving an all-conference award. The other two years she was named to the second team.
Three other Whippet softball players also received all-conference awards.
Senior Gina Hollingshead, the other co-captain, was named to the second team as an infielder. This is her third all-conference award, as well.
“She is the best defensive player that I have ever coached and one of, if not the best, I have seen,” coach Nelson said.
Hollingshead made just four errors over her four-year career on over 500 chances at first base. She batted .341 this season.
Seniors Rosie Jaskolski and Samantha Gosh were named honorable mention.
Jaskolski, the team’s second baseman, was also the Whippets most improved player. She pulled off three tag-them-out, throw-them-out double plays, and made only two errors this season.
Gosh was Whitewater’s catcher the past two seasons, and threw out eight of 13 attempted steals this year.
Baseball
In baseball, junior Jacob Maas was named the all-RVC North second team as a catcher, with senior Andy Tautges making the second team as an infielder.
Making honorable mention were junior Scott Gorsuch and senior Ryan Perez.
Golf
Steven Sobolewski made the all-RVC North second team as a Whippet golfer. He averaged 42.8 this season over nine holes.
