On a cool and damp evening, the Whitewater High School track and field squads competed in the Tider Invitational held Friday at Edgerton.

The Whippet boys brought home the second-place trophy, tallying 116.50 points to trail only Westosha Central with 128 points.

The Whippet girls finished eighth in the 10-team invite with 37.5 points. Elkhorn won the girls event with 116 points.

“This was the last invitational before the conference championship meet next Saturday, so some of the girls that were a little sick or slightly injured were held out in preparation for that meet,” head coach John Houwers noted.

The boys won three events: the 3,200-meter run, the high jump, and the 300-meter hurdles.

Brett Harms took home the top spot in the 3,200 with a time of nine minutes, 57.02 seconds.

Joe Bullis won the 300 hurdles in 39.33 seconds, and Andy Cooper captured the high jump clearing six feet, two inches.

“Joe continues to look strong in the 300 hurdles, pulling away from the field with about 30 meters left,” Houwers said.

Houwers also noted the effort of Cody Fiedler. Fiedler finished third in the pole vault, clearing 13-06. Houwers said he narrowly missed a school record height of 14-0.

Taking second for the Whippet boys were Anthony Juoni in the triple jump, and the 4-by-800 relay team of Harms, Austin Banda, James Ehlen and Calvin Otterbacher.

Third-place finishes were turned in by Marios Shahollari in the 100, Keagen Stonewerth in the long jump, and Dustin Hayes in the triple jump.

The Whippet girls were paced by Kailey Reynolds, who won the 100 in 13.08. She also was third in the pole vault, clearing 8-06.

Brooke Trewyn was the only other Whippet girl with a top-three finish. She was third in the high jump.

Evansville triangular

In the Evansville triangular April 30, the Whippet boys defeated Evansville 99-47 and Edgerton 75-71.

In the Evansville victory, the boys won 15 of the 18 events, and captured first and second in six events.

The boys had a much tougher time against Edgerton, winning 10 of 18 events. They won first and second in only four events, but overall tallied enough points to gain the win.

The Whippet girls defeated Edgerton 83-59 winning 11 of the 18 events and taking the top two places in four events.

The girls lost to Evansville 76-62, winning half of the events, but not having enough depth to gain the victory.

Schedule

The Whippets final tune-up was at McFarland on Tuesday in a dual meet.

The Rock Valley Conference Meet will be held Saturday, May 11 at Brodhead.
