With Brooke Trewyn scoring as many points as the entire Parkview team, the Whitewater High School girls basketball team cruised to a 62-21 victory Tuesday on their home court.
Trewyn scored 13 points in the first quarter as the Whippets started out fast, grabbing a 21-2 lead.
“I was extremely pleased with our spark to start the game, and even more thrilled with some of the passes we connected with tonight,” head coach Judy Harms said.
Trewyn finished with 21 points, which is her average per game this season.
Sarah Schumacher added 10.
The Whippet girls also shot well at the free-throw line, connecting on nine of 13 foul shots.
Whitewater led 36-10 at half and 50-18 after three quarters.
With the win, the Whippet girls are now 16-2 overall and 11-2 in the Rock Valley Conference.
The girls are ranked No. 7 in the state in Division 2 in the Feb. 5 coaches poll.
Vs. Big Foot
The Whippet girls earned their second RVC cross-over win with an easy 65-38 win at Big Foot Jan. 31.
“Whitewater produced balanced scoring throughout the game,” Harms said.
That balanced scoring was reflected in the fact that the Whippets scored from 15-18 points in every quarter.
Schumacher led Whitewater with 18 points, followed by Trewyn with 17.
Schumacher had eight field goals and was two for three from the foul line to account for her 18 points.
Trewyn had five threes and a two for her 17. She did not get to the free-throw line.
Not many free throws were shot in this game, as the Whippets made five of eight and Big Foot three of four.
