After winning the regional championship, the Whitewater High School boys soccer team saw its season come to a disappointing end with a 5-1 loss to Shorewood Oct. 18.
The Whippets, who were a No. 6 seed in the sectional, simply were unable to stay with the No. 2 seeded Shorewood Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds got on the board just four minutes into the game and added a second goal in the 10-minute mark.
A goal in the 36th minute gave Shorewood a 3-0 lead at the half.
Shorewood upped its lead to 4-0 before Whitewater was able to get on the board.
Marios Shahollari, off an assist from Rigo Navejas, cut the lead to 4-1 in the 50th minute, but five minutes later Shorewood scored again for the final margin. The goal by Shahollari was his 23rd of the year, which increased his single-season WHS record.
Whitewater concluded its 2012 season with a 12-7-2 overall record and a Rock Valley Conference mark of 8-3-1.
The Whippet coaches expressed thanks to all the fans who supported the boys throughout the season and who traveled to Shorewood for the rainy sectional game.
