The Big Foot girls track team secured the Rock Valley Conference South division title at Tuesday night’s Walworth County Meet in Elkhorn.
East Troy won the boys meet with 177.5 points, followed by Badger with 162, Elkhorn with 151.5, Big Foot with 101.33 and Whitewater with 49. Faith Christian was next with 25, followed by Delavan-Darien with 16.66.
On the girls’ side, Elkhorn claimed the top spot with 155.5 points, just ahead of Badger’s 152 and East Troy’s 137. The Chiefs were next with 127.5 points, followed by Whitewater with 42, Delavan-Darien with 34 and Faith Christian with 14.
The Big Foot girls returned with four county titles, while the boys had one first-place finish.
Brooke Wellhausen led the girls, as she won the 400 (1:01.22) and the triple jump (33-8 ½). The Chiefs’ 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams also finished first.
Making up the 800-relay squad that won with a time of 1:51.43 were Claire Beyers, Reagan Courier, Zanzie Demco and Grace Gillingham. The winning 1,600-meter team included Gloria Esarco, Demco, Gillingham and Wellhausen and posted a time of 4:08.03 – nearly 22 seconds faster than East Troy’s second-place team.
Mike Petkoff won the high jump at 5-8 for the boys’ lone first-place finish.
Demco was second in the 200 (27.59), while boys’ second-place efforts were turned in by Connor Kirk in the 100 (11.95); Jackson Enz in the 110-hurdles (15.86) and the 300-hurdles (40.4); Charlie Chalcoff in the shot put (42-1 ½); and the 800-meter relay team of Kirk, Petkoff, Hunter Sharpe and Enz (1:35.39).
Both squads are back in action Saturday when they compete at the Rock Valley Conference Meet at Evansville, beginning at 10 a.m.
Trio competes for golf
The Big Foot boys golf team had just three players available for Tuesday’s RVC Mini-Meet at Prairie Woods, which led to an incomplete team score.
Palmyra-Eagle, which leads the overall standings, won the team title with a 186, followed by Beloit Turner with a 189, Parkview with a 191, Brodhead with a 204 and Clinton with a 205.
Tim Weiss led the Chiefs with a 42, followed by Lars Larsen with a 47 and Jake Trosclair with a 48.
Big Foot posted a team score of 409 to finish 13th overall at Monday’s 19-team Abbey Springs Invitational. Edgerton was first with a 331, followed by Badger with a 332 and Lakeside Lutheran with a 337.
Leading the way was Finn Rowe with an 84 (43-41), followed by Weiss with a 95 (47-48), Larsen with a 113 (54-59) and Trosclair with a 117 (58-59).
Big Foot was back in action Thursday with an RVC Mini-Meet at Decatur Lakes, followed by the conference meet Saturday at the Riverside Golf Course, Janesville. The Chiefs also will compete May 15 at the Ryder Cup at Evergreen Golf Course, Elkhorn.
Chiefs fall to Brodhead
Visiting Brodhead scored five times in the third inning to take control in a 12-2, six-inning win over the Big Foot softball team last Thursday.
The loss dropped the Chiefs to 2-13 overall.
Offensive leaders included Lauren Paulsen (RBI), Meghan Dykstra (RBI), Abbi Snudden (hit, stolen base), Kaleigh Baxter (hit, stolen base), Sophia Trajkovich (hit, run), Yesenia Gonzalez (hit) and Riley Davis (hit, run).
Davis took the loss, as she allowed 12 hits, nine earned runs, two walks and struck out four.
Big Foot hosted Palmyra-Eagle on Thursday and will compete this weekend at the Walworth County Invitational at the softball complex in Darien.
Tennis drops dual
The Big Foot-Williams Bay boys tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 RVC dual meet to visiting Watertown Luther Prep last Wednesday.
Winning matches for the Chiefs were Evan Karabas at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1; Beau Cary and Christian Karabas at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2; and Gunnar Smith and Jack Grunow at No. 3, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
Falling in the dual were Jack Heidenreich at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 3-6; Nelson Tovar at No. 2, 0-6, 1-6; Alexis Duran at No. 3, 6-5, 0-6 (2-10); and Logan Grunow and Hamilton Smith at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-10.
Big Foot is back in action Tuesday, May 16, when it competes in the RVC Tournament at UW-Whitewater.
Baseball falls twice
The Big Foot baseball team allowed just six runs in two games last week, but managed just one of its own in losses of 3-1 May 4 to Brodhead and 3-0 Tuesday at Palmyra-Eagle.
Travis Berryman had two hits against Palmyra to lead the offense. Heath Dillenbeck took the loss, as he allowed three hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out six.
Berryman and Colton Berg each had a hit in the loss to Brodhead. Jack Hereley allowed eight hits, one earned run and struck out three in the loss.
Big Foot hosted Palmyra-Eagle on Thursday, traveled to Williams Bay on Saturday and will make a trip to Burlington Catholic Central on Monday. The Chiefs are back home Tuesday, May 16, to face Clinton.
