Boys record victories in three track events

The talented depth on the Big Foot girls track and field squad came through when the Chiefs needed it most at Tuesday night’s Rock Valley Conference South Division Meet at Palmyra-Eagle.
And with that came a team title.
Big Foot won three events, but posted a number of top-six efforts to finish first with 160.75 points, just ahead of Brodhead/Juda’s 155. Clinton was a distant third with 85 points.
Rounding out the team scores were Parkview with 60.25, Beloit Turner with 57 and Palmyra-Eagle with 34.
On the boys’ side, the Chiefs were third overall with 119 points, behind Brodhead’s 176 and Clinton’s 139.5.
Finishing behind those three were Turner with 71.5 points, Parkview with 38 and Palmyra with eight.
Big Foot’s Brooke Wellhausen led the girls with a pair of individual titles.
Wellhausen was first in the long jump (15-6) and the triple jump (34-5). She also was second in the 200 (27.46) and the 400 (1:00.57).
The Chiefs’ third title came from the 1,600-meter relay team of Reagan Courier, Olivia Briggs, Zanzie Demco and Payton Courier (4:30.03).
Big Foot had six second-place finishes to give it critical points in the final team standings.
Placing second were Gloria Esarco in the 800 (2:33.29) and the 1,600 (5:47.84); Sophie Foster in the 3,200 (13:03.58); the 3,200-relay team of Samantha Eichmann, Foster, Viola Larson and Lizzy Hougas (11:46.52); Makenzie Lueck in the shot put (31-10 ¾); and Gillingham in the long jump (15-1).
Also scoring points for the girls were Gillingham, third in the 100 (13.73), the 200 (27.8) and the triple jump (32-10); Demco, third in the 400 (1:01.64) and the 800 (2:35.26) and fifth in the long jump (14-6); Briggs, third in the 100-hurdles (18.61) and fourth in the 300-hurdles (53.8) and the triple jump (31-0 ½); Reagan Courier, third in the high jump (4-4); Esarco, fourth in the 3,200 (13:30.57); Payton Courier, fourth in the shot put (31-4); Lueck, fourth in the discus (93-4); the 800-relay team of Claire Beyers, Reagan Courier, Eliza Lopez and Annie Rowe, fifth (1:58.11); and Hougas, fifth in the pole vault (7-0).
The Big Foot boys also won three events Tuesday night.
Manuel Bernal led the way with titles in the 1,600 (4:51.44) and the 3,200 (10:49.27). Big Foot’s other title came from Jackson Enz in the 110-hurdles (16.4).
Posting runner-up efforts were Enz in the 200 (23.68) and the 300-hurdles (40.42); Dimitri Demco in the 800 (2:10.53); and David Martin in the 110-hurdles (16.42) and the triple jump (39-6).
Also scoring for the boys were Martin, third in the 300-hurdles (43.71); the 400-relay team of Austin Brongiel, Hunter Sharpe, Mike Petkoff and Trevor Rambatt, third (48.15); Enz, third in the long jump (19-7); Petkoff, third in the triple jump (38-8 ½); Pedro Sierra, fourth in the 110-hurdles (18.77) and the 300-hurdles (45.37); the 800-relay team of Brongiel, Sharpe, Petkoff and Rambatt, fourth (1:45.39); the 1,600-team of Demco, Brongiel, Martin and Logan Eischeid, fourth (3:51.9);
The 3,200-team of Demco, Enrique Mondragon, Jalen DeLeon and Will Volmar, fifth (9:53.76); Sharpe, fifth in the 100 (12.6); Petkoff, fifth in the high jump (5-6); Rambatt, fifth in the pole vault (8-6); DeLeon, sixth in the 1,600 (5:22.24); and Mike Kazy-Garay, sixth in the discus (106-3).
Both squads will host Palmyra-Eagle and Parkview in a triangular Monday, followed by the Elkhorn Invitational on Tuesday.
Chiefs win five at Badger
Wellhausen and Enz each won two individual events to highlight Big Foot’s effort at Friday’s Badger Invitational.
In the 400, Wellhausen led the pack with a time of 1:00.1. She also won the triple jump (34-5 ¼).
Big Foot’s 3,200-relay team of Esarco, Demco, Gillingham and Wellhausen was first in 9:51.11 for the Chiefs’ other title.
Enz swept the hurdles, as he was first in the 110 (15:39) and the 300 (40.75) for the boys’ two winning efforts.
The boys were fourth with 79.5 points, behind Badger’s 155.5, Jefferson’s 124.5 and Cary-Grove’s 109.
On the girls’ side, Big Foot was fifth with 87.5 points. Jefferson won the team title with 131.5, followed by Kenosha Tremper with 102.5, Verona with 94.5 and Cary-Grove with 89.5.
