If early results are any indication, it looks like the Big Foot-Williams Bay boys tennis team may make plenty of noise in the Rock Valley Conference this spring.
At least, that’s how things are starting to shape up.
The Chiefs picked up a pair of convincing RVC wins last week, a 5-2 decision April 20 over visiting Whitewater and a 6-1 win April 24 at Jefferson.
Big Foot also competed April 21 at the East Troy Quadrangular and posted a 2-1 overall mark.
The Chiefs swept the doubles matches in the dual with Jefferson.
Winning doubles matchups were seniors Logan Grunow and Hamilton Smith at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1 over Cole Fredrick and Mason Lindemoen; senior Beau Cary and sophomore Christian Karabas at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2 over Ryan Messer and Tim Felton; and sophomore Ben Hesse and freshman Matthew Thoma at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3 over Gunnar Smith and Eli Hild.
Picking up singles wins were junior Jack Heidenreich at No. 1, 6-1, 7-5 over Blake Drays; senior Alexis Duran at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1 over Matthew Thompson; and senior Evan Karabas at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0 over Rey Kawamura.
The Chiefs’ lone blemish came at No. 2 singles, as senior Nelson Tovar fell 4-6, 7-5, 6-10 to Tyler Seisser in a match that took more than two hours to complete. Tovar trailed 5-2 in the second set before he rallied to force the tie-breaking third set.
Big Foot enjoyed a similar outing in the win over Whitewater.
Earning victories at singles were Tovar at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1 over Cole Kinson; Duran at No. 3, 6-0, 6-4 over Viet Vo; and Evan Karabas at No. 4, 6-2, 6-0 over Colin Chenoweth.
Winning doubles matches were Hamilton Smith/Logan Grunow at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4 over Justin Brantmeier and Mitchell Dalzin; and Gunnar Smith/Jack Grunow at No. 3, 7-6 (5), 6-2 over Joseph Creanz and Johaly Xochipa.
Dropping matches to the Whippets were Heidenreich at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 5-7 to Dineth Gunawardena, and the No. 2 doubles team of Alex Laing and Christian Karabas at No. 2, 4-6, 2-6 to Jimmy King and Anthony Reid.
Details from the Chiefs’ outing at the East Troy Quadrangular were unavailable by press time.
The team was back in action Thursday with an RVC dual meet at McFarland, followed by a nonconference matchup Saturday at Elkhorn.
