The Big Foot-Williams Bay doubles duo of seniors Michael Heidenreich and Adrian Hernandez lost in their first match at the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament last week.
Heidenreich-Hernandez dropped a 5-7, 2-6 decision to the Sauk Prairie duo of Ben Kraus and T.J. Pfaff to finish the spring at 15-10 overall.
The loss didn’t diminish a strong effort, both during the match, but also throughout the season, Big Foot coach Chris Chen said.
“I was really very pleased with how Mike and A.J. played at state,” Chen said. “They are both great athletes, and they used their athleticism to keep the match close.
“A.J. had some great serves and Mike played well at the net. While it would have been great to see them take a match at state, they fought hard, and I was grateful they got the opportunity to experience state for the first time as seniors.”
Chen said he’s already looking forward to 2017.
“I felt the team laid a solid foundation for next year, while also playing some solid tennis,” he said. “We have six players returning next year, so I am hoping for some big things come next spring.”
