The third match of the season with Watertown Luther Prep didn’t go the way Big Foot’s doubles tandem of seniors Michael Heidenreich and Adrian Hernandez hoped for.

Big Foot lost that contest at last week’s sectional in a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 decision – to break a 1-1 tie with Watertown.

But in the end, what the Big Foot duo accomplished the rest of the season was enough to extend the Chiefs’ season one more week.

Heidenreich and Hernandez received a special qualifier to this weekend’s WIAA Division 2 State Tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium, Madison.

Big Foot (15-9 overall) will face the Sauk Prairie duo of seniors Ben Kraus and T.J. Pfaff (17-5) in a first-round matchup at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

The winner gets a second-round match Friday at noon against either the sixth-seeded duo of Plymouth senior Gabe Binversie and junior Gavin Binversie (23-1) or the Sauk Prairie team of sophomore Parker Chrisler and junior Adam Kampschoer (18-5).

University School of Milwaukee seniors Zack Schneck and Jake Coran (20-3) enter the weekend as the top-seeded doubles team in Division 2.

Soccer wins finale

The Big Foot-Williams Bay girls soccer team closed out its regular season last week with a 2-1 win at McFarland to secure a perfect 8-0 record in the Rock Valley Conference and the conference title.

Scoring details from that matchup were unavailable.

Big Foot drew the No. 2 seed in the WIAA Division 3 regional and hosted seventh-seeded Jefferson on Thursday night.

The winner will face either third-seeded Cambridge-Deerfield or sixth-seeded East Troy in a regional final on Saturday.

Golfers close out season

The Big Foot boys golf team was ninth with a 403 at a WIAA Division 2 regional last week at the Nakoma Country Club.

Big Foot posted a team score of 403. Edgewood was first with a 312, followed by Monroe with a 321, Mt. Horeb with a 329, Edgerton with a 331 and McFarland with a 342.

Rounding out the team scores were Evansville with a 385, Clinton with a 393, Beloit Turner with a 401, Big Foot and Brodhead with a 489.

Senior Quintin Sharpe led the Chiefs with a 98 (50-48), followed by junior Lars Larsen with a 100 (54-46), senior Steve Wolski with a 101 (51-50), freshman Tim Weiss with 104 (52-52) and sophomore Jacob Watters with a 115 (51-64).

Softball, baseball fall

The spring campaigns came to an end last week for both the Big Foot softball and baseball teams in WIAA regional games.

Big Foot’s softball team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision in a regional opener last Tuesday to finish the spring at 8-12 overall.

The Chiefs led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but East Troy scored twice in that frame and held on for the win.

Yesenia Gonzalez had two hits and three RBI to lead Big Foot, followed by Courtney Schoenbeck with two hits and a run scored. Riley Davis and Morgan Stalker each added a hit apiece.

Davis took the loss, as she allowed five hits, three earned runs, three walks and struck out four in six innings.

The Big Foot baseball team fell 8-4 to Delavan-Darien, which then followed with a 3-2 upset win over top-seeded Greendale Martin Luther to advance to Thursday’s regional final.

Big Foot held a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but the Comets scored eight unanswered runs to take control. The Chiefs scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Austin West and Brendan Kelley each had three hits to lead Big Foot. Kelley also drove in two runs, while Zak Greco added a hit and two runs scored.

Heath Dillenbeck took the loss, as he worked 5-2/3 innings, and allowed 13 hits, seven earned runs and struck out three. Mark Schauf allowed two hits in the final 1-1/3 innings.
