Tennis struggles at dual meet

A road trip Monday afternoon to Watertown Luther Prep proved to be a tough challenge for the Big Foot-Williams Bay boys tennis team.

Big Foot had its chances in doubles, but was swept 7-0 in the nonconference dual meet.

Falling in doubles for the Chiefs were seniors Michael Heidenreich and Adrian Hernandez, 4-6, 3-6; juniors Hamilton Smith and Logan Grunow, 1-6, 5-7; and senior Ben Malone and junior Nelson Tovar, 4-6, 4-6.

Dropping singles decisions were sophomore Jack Heidenreich, 0-6, 3-6; senior Liam McCarthy, 0-6, 0-6; junior Alexis Durban, 2-6, 1-6; and junior Evan Karabas, 1-6, 2-6.

The loss came on the heels of the Chiefs’ third-place effort at last week’s East Troy Invitational.

Big Foot finished the day 1-2, as it defeated University Lake School 6-1, and fell to East Troy and Edgerton 4-3 and 5-2, respectively.

The Chiefs’ No. 1 and 2 doubles teams came home with first-place medals.

At No. 1, Hernandez-Michael Heidenreich, and at No. 2, Smith-Grunow both were 3-0.

Hernandez-Michael Heidrenreich defeated East troy 6-2, 6-1; ULS, 6-0, 6-0; and Edgerton 6-2, 6-1. The duo of Smith-Grunow posted wins over East Troy, 6-4, 4-6 (10-6); ULS, 6-0, 6-0; and Edgerton, 6-3, 6-3.

Big Foot opened its week with a 5-2 Rock Valley Conference setback to visiting McFarland.

The Chiefs’ lone two wins came at No. 2, as McCarthy won 6-2, 6-0 and at No. 3 singles, as Duran won 6-2, 7-6 (13-11).

Dropping matches were Jack Heidenreich at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 3-6; Karabas at No. 4, 3-6, 1-6; Hernandez-Michael Heidenreich at No. 1 doubles, 4-6, 4-6; Smith-Grunow at No. 2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 8-10; and Malone-Tovar at No. 3, 4-6, 2-6.

Big Foot returned to RVC dual meet action Thursday at East Troy and will compete Saturday morning in the Delavan-Darien Invitational. The Chiefs host Union Grove May 3 for a nonconference matchup with the Broncos.

Golfers 15th at invite

Jocab Watters led the Big Foot boys golf team with a round of 92 (46-46) at Monday’s Geneva National Invitational.

Quintin Sharpe was next with a 97 (51-46), followed by Steve Wolski with a 102 (51-51), Lars Larson with a 102 (55-47) and Quentin Arnold with a 132 (66-66).

The Chiefs finished with a 393 to place 15th in the 23-team meet. Badger won the team title with a 311, followed by Waunakee with a 323, Edgerton with a 330, Stoughton with a 336 and Racine St. Catherine’s with a 341.

The Chiefs host Burlington May 2 at the Big Foot Country Club.
