Wrestlers finish 10th at conference meet

Travis Berryman advanced the finals at 120 pounds and finished second overall at Saturday’s RVC Meet to lead the Big Foot-Williams Bay squad.

Berryman (30-8) had a first-round bye, followed by a pinfall win in 5:07 over Evansville’s Hunter Georgeson. He moved into the finals with a 10-2 major decision victory over Palmyra’s Ricky Smith.

In the title tilt, Berryman fell by an 11-2 major decision to East Troy’s Cody Vogel.

Rodney Flom (160) and Nick Freymiller (285) each finished 1-2 for the Chiefs’ two other victories.

Freymiller pinned Turner’s Dante Colorado in 50 seconds to finish fifth, while Flom pinned Evansville’s Jake Lyle in 1:53 to finish seventh.

Titus Frederick (126) was 0-3, while Ethan Rowland (182) was 0-2.

Big Foot finished 10th in the team standings with 86 points. Evansville won the title with 369, followed by Turner with 309, Whitewater with 276, East Troy with 266.5 and Brodhead with 242.

Rounding out the top 10 were Parkview with 203.5, Jefferson with 193.5, Edgerton with 135, Clinton with 93, Big Foot and Palmyra with 55.

Next up for the Chiefs is the WIAA Division 2 Big Foot Regional Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The top-three wrestlers in each weight class advance to next weekend’s Milwaukee Lutheran Sectional Saturday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m., with a berth in the state meet at stake.
