The past week was a solid one for the Big Foot girls basketball team.

Big Foot moved to 6-2 in the Rock Valley Conference and 8-4 overall with two more victories.

The Chiefs edged visiting Edgerton 51-47 Jan. 7, followed by a 77-33 thumping of host Evansville Tuesday night. The two-game sweep kept Big Foot one game off the pace at the top of the South Division standings, behind only Brodhead’s 7-1,

Details from Tuesday’s 44-point win over Evansville were not available by deadline.

In the win over Edgerton, Big Foot held an eight-point halftime lead at 23-15 before it had to hold off a Tide rally in the final 18 minutes.

Edgerton outscored the Chiefs by four points in the second half, but Big Foot held on.

Leading the way were Morgan Courier with 17 points and Courtney Schoenbeck with nine points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Payton Courier added eight points, while Brooke Wellhausen chipped in with six.

Big Foot is back in action Friday when it hosts Palmyra-Eagle in a 7:15 p.m. RVC contest, followed by a home non-conference matchup Jan. 18 against visiting Burlington.

Boys struggle at Turner

On the boys’ side, Big Foot dropped a 75-56 RVC decision Jan. 8 at Turner.

The loss pushed the Chiefs’ record to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Big Foot led 28-24 at halftime but was outscored 51-28 in the second half as the South Division leaders rallied.

Big Foot was back in action Thursday night at Edgerton, followed by a home contest Tuesday, Jan. 19, against visiting Evansville.

Wrestlers drop two

The Big Foot wrestling squad fell in two RVC dual meets last week.

Host Palmyra-Eagle handed the Chiefs a 59-6 setback Tuesday, which came on the heels of a 54-18 loss Jan. 9 to visiting Brodhead-Juda.

Travis Berryman accounted for Big Foot’s only win at 120 pounds Jan. 12, via forfeit.

Dropping decisions were Titus Frederick (126), by pin in 1:23 to Collin Hatlevig; Rodney Flom (152), by technical fall 15-0 to Aaron Hatlevig; Ethan Michel (170), by pin in 3:20 to Gavon Brown; Ethan Roland (182), by pin in 2:57 to Chase Carratt; and Nick Freymiller (285), by pin in 1:44 to Nicholas Shepherd.

Big Foot also dropped forfeit decisions at 132, 138, 145, 195 and 113 pounds.

The Chiefs picked up two wins on the mat Jan. 9.

Berryman pinned Brodhead’s Blake Burns in 3:34, while Flom pinned Nick Hack in 3:29. Fredrick also was credited with a forfeit win at 126 pounds.

Falling to the Cardinals were Roland (182), by pin in 1:01 to Logan Ford; and Freymiller (285), by pin in 1:01 to Dakota Taber. Big Foot also gave up forfeits at 106, 132, 138, 145, 160, 170 and 220 pounds.

Both teams forfeited at 113 and 195 pounds.

Big Foot hosts Beloit Turner Friday night and is set to compete at the Badger Tournament Saturday morning.
