Into the second quarter Friday night, the Big Foot football team went toe to toe with the Rock Valley Conference’s North Division champions.
But from there, visiting Evansville-Albany proved why they finished on top of the standings.
Evansville scored 34 unanswered points to erase a 7-6 deficit and roll to a 40-7 victory over its longtime South Division rival. Big Foot, which finished in a four-way tie for the South title, closed the regular season at 5-4 overall.
After the visitors jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Big Foot held its only advantage of the night in the second quarter.
Zak Greco hit Michael Heidenreich for a 6-yard touchdown, and then Greco added the extra point, to put Big Foot in front at 7-6.
But it didn’t last.
Evansville jumped back in front on a 6-yard touchdown, before it took control with a 20-0 third quarter.
For the game, Greco completed 12 of 24 passes for 189 yards. Sam Ritchey led the rushing attack with seven carries for 33 yards, while Heidenreich had a team high six receptions for 93 yards.
Pedro Sierra added three catches for 58 yards, while Kasey Woodside had two catches for 29.
Defensive leaders included Mickey Sededucate with 12 tackles, Olinh Craig with 11, Charlie Peterson with 10, Mark Schauf with nine, Jacque Christman with eight and Greco and Brennan Malone with seven each.
Big Foot drew the No. 5 seed in the Division 4 playoffs and travels to No. 4 East Troy Friday for a 7 p.m. contest. The Chiefs dropped a 20-14 decision to the Trojans just two weeks ago.
The winner advances to face either top-seeded Lodi or eighth-seeded Platteville in next week’s Level 2 round.
Girls seventh in RVC
The girls cross country team recorded 191 points, good for seventh overall. Whitewater won the team title with 59 points, followed by McFarland with 62, Jefferson with 77.
