Through six innings Tuesday, it looked like the Big Foot baseball team was on its way to a third straight victory for the week.
Host Parkview had other ideas.
The Vikings pulled to within a run with a three-run sixth inning, and then won the game with two more in the seventh in a 5-4 Rock Valley Conference victory
Big Foot fell to 7-9 in conference play and 7-13 overall.
The Chiefs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings before Parkview began its comeback.
Zak Greco led the way with three hits and two RI, followed by Foster Isham with a hit and a run scored and Brendan Kelley with a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Connor McCarthy added a hit and two runs scored.
Chandler Hehr worked the first six innings, and allowed five hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out three. Brandon Hausner pitched a third of an inning and allowed a hit.
The loss came on the heels of two wins, a 7-3 decision May 14 at Beloit Turner and an 8-7 non-conference win May 15 at Elkhorn.
Both Big Foot and Elks battled back and forth throughout. The Chiefs took an 8-4 advantage with a single tally in the fifth inning before Elkhorn answered with three runs of its own in the bottom of the frame.
But the Chiefs hung on from there to earn the win.
Offensive leaders included Jack Senft with two hits and two runs scored, Greco with two hits and Isham with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Rodney Flom chipped in with two hits and two RBI, Hehr had two RBI and Alex Landers a hit, two runs scored and an RBI.
Mark Schauf pitched 4 2-3 innings, and allowed six hits, seven runs, five walks and one strikeout. Only one of the runs charged to Schauf was earned.
Senft worked 2 1-3 innings, and allowed a walk and struck out four.
Big Foot broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the seventh inning in the 7-3 win May 14 at Turner
Hehr had three hits and two RBI for the Chiefs, while Hausner drove in two and Isham had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.
Hausner earned the win, as he allowed six hits, three earned runs, eight walks and struck out three in 6 2-3 innings. Schauf pitched the last one-third to pick up the save.
Big Foot was back in action Thursday against visiting Parkview, followed by a non-conference home game next Tuesday against Williams Bay.
Softball has 2-3 week
A three-run fifth inning by host Fort Atkinson Tuesday proved to be the difference, as the Black Hawks defeated the visiting Big Foot softball team 7-4.
The non-conference loss dropped the Chiefs to 11-9 overall. Further information from that matchup was not available this week.
Earlier in the week, Big Foot split four games, including a 2-1 record at last weekend’s Walworth County Tournament in Darien.
Big Foot lost 5-2 to Elkhorn, but posted wins of 10-0 over East Troy and 4-1 over Whitewater. The Chiefs fell 13-0 to the second-ranked Division 2 team in the state, Beloit Turner, to open the week.
Offensive leaders against Whitewater included Brooke Berryman with two hits and an RBI; Riley Davis with two hits and an RBI; and Morgan Stalker and Katie Santeler each with a hit and an RBI.
Stalker and Davis combined to pitch all seven innings and allowed five hits, an earned run, two walks and struck out three.
A four-run first and a five-run third were the offense the Chiefs needed in the 10-1 win over East Troy.
Courtney Schoenbeck had a team-high four hits, two runs scored and four RBI to lead the way, followed by Davis with two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Camryn Horton and Brooke Berryman each added two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Big Foot finished the game with seven stolen bases.
The Chiefs pushed single runs across the plate in the sixth and seventh innings against Elkhorn, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the 5-2 loss. Sam Hartwig had two hits and a run scored for Big Foot.
Big Foot finished its regular season Thursday at Whitewater. The Chiefs, who took an 8-7 RVC record into that contest, open WIAA regional play next Tuesday, May 26, against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
