The Big Foot wrestling team ventured far west Saturday and came home from the Mt. Horeb Invitational with a solid fifth-place finish.
Fennimore won the title at the 13-team meet with 232 points, followed by Verona with 196, Mt. Horeb with 166, Cambridge with 128 and the Chiefs with 122.
Big Foot had two second-place efforts and two thirds to highlight its day.
Finishing second for the Chiefs were Evan Graham (285) and Mickey Setteducate (152).
Graham, who went 2-1 on the day, defeated Madison West’s Mark Bogel by pinfall in 5:16, followed by a 9-6 win over Deerfield’s Erik Knipfer to advance to the finals.
In that match, Graham fell by pinfall in 3:02 to Fennimore’s Deven O’Brien.
Setteducate, who also was 2-1, began his day with a pinfall win in 1:19 over Oregon’s Omar Sacramento. He advanced to the finals with a 7-5 win over Fennimore’s Justin Mulrooney, but was pinned in 4:20 by Mt. Horeb’s Brad Jones to finish second.
Other top efforts were turned in by Travis Berryman (106), third at 3-1; Will Utesch (220), third at 3-1; Kent Myerson (113), fourth at 2-2; Raul Reyes (170), fifth at 3-2; James Welsh (120), seventh at 1-2; Ronald Weber (126), seventh at 2-2; and Peter Briggs (160), seventh at 1-2.
Big Foot is back in action next Monday and Tuesday when it travels to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to compete in the annual Mid-States Invitational.
