Another week, more domination by the Big Foot-Williams Bay boys soccer team.

Big Foot, which hasn’t lost since Sept. 13, strung together four more wins and a tie, including a 6-0 Rock Valley Conference win Tuesday night against visiting Edgerton.

The Chiefs now are 14-3-3 overall and 8-0-2 in the RVC. Big Foot currently is in first, ahead of Evansville (6-1-3) with two conference matches remaining.

Prior to Tuesday’s match, Big Foot posted a 2-0-1 record at last weekend’s Badger Invitational. The Chiefs tied Badger 3-3 and posted wins of 6-0 and 7-0 over the Middleton varsity reserve squad and Grant (Ill.).

Big Foot opened play Sept. 25 with a 5-1 win over Edgerton.

Life is pretty good right now for the Chiefs.

“It’s obviously been very fun to string together so many positive results,” Big Foot coach Keith Blakeman said. “The players enjoy playing with each other and the success they have found.”

Players on both sides of the field have performed well during this run, Blakeman said.

“They are defending well as a team,” he said. “Every player is taking defensive responsibility. They are controlling the central midfield and dictating the pace and direction of play. They are converting their opportunities into goals consistently.”

Scoring goals Tuesday were Williams Bay’s Cory Shea with two and Christian Munoz with one, while Juan Mercado had an assist. Goalie Nico Tovar had for saves.

Big Foot trailed Badger 3-0 in the first half Friday before it rallied to force the 3-3 tie.

Ludovic Resendiz scored all three goals to lead the comeback. Octavio Hernandez had assists on two of the goals, while Connor Koehn was credited with eight saves.

The two other matches at the invitational never were in doubt.

Munoz and Resendiz each scored two goals against Middleton, while Adrian Hernandez and Alexis Duran each had one. Resendiz had an assist and Tovar 10 saves.

The goal barrage continued against Grant, as Munoz had the hat trick to lead the way, while Octavio Hernandez had two goals and an assist. Hunter Shields added a goal, Resendiz a goal and an assist, and Tovar had eight saves.

Munoz now has a team-high 18 goals.

“Christian is certainly on a hot streak,” Blakeman said. “I think his movement without the ball has been one of the keys to his success.

“He continually puts himself into dangerous positions, and the midfield has been able to supply him with the ball. Once he has it, he can take on players and has found that elusive finishing touch.”

Blakeman was pleased with his team’s effort at the invitational.

“We struggled in the first half against Badger but then found our footing and maintained consistency across the other two games,” he said.

“Nico Tovar made an amazing double save of a penalty kick in our third game that saved the tournament title for us. Strong performances, punctuated by extraordinary individual play at key moments is what all coaches want to see.”

Big Foot had little trouble with Edgerton in the 5-1 win to open the week.

Munoz had two goals, followed by Resendiz with a goal and an assist. Shea, Mercado and Octavio Hernandez each added a goal, while Foster Isham had an assist and Tovar two saves.

Conference wrapping up

Big Foot traveled to East Troy Thursday night and closes out the conference schedule Monday, Oct. 6, against visiting Whitewater.

All the Chiefs have to do is take care of business and the title will be theirs.

“We have two games left and need at least four points from them,” Blakeman said. “We know that we can beat every team we face if we play to our potential. We need to be sure to execute the way we know we can.”
