The Lake Geneva Badger golf team reached the WIAA state tournament at University Ridge in Madison for the fifth year in a row by winning the Mukwonago sectional at Big Bend’s Edgewood Golf Course on May 28.

The Badgers shot 301 as a team, two shots better than Mukwonago and Sun Prairie. Mukwonago won a tiebreaker to earn the second of two spots at the state tournament over Sun Prairie. The state tournament was played on Monday and Tuesday.

The Badgers have qualified for the state tournament nine times in the last 13 years. Last year the Badgers finished 11th.

Coach David DeShambo said that was in part due to a poor first-day showing. The Badgers played much better on the second day of the tournament. DeShambo said the team is pushing for a top half of the field finish this year.

Blake Wisdom was the low medalist at the sectional in Mukwonago with a score of 71. Luke Abram tied for fifth at 75, Ben Rademaker finished 13th with a 77, and T.J. Walton finished 17th with a 78.
